Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Why do you concentrate on open source software?

Open source software is rapidly changing both the IT and business environments, as the concept of commoditization of software assets moves closer to reality. Still the topic is basically ignored by the majority of IT analysts. Much of the reluctance stems from blatant conflict of interests most IT research and analysis firms have with commercial vendors. However, as a fully independent firm, we feel very strongly about the emergent role of open source within the enterprise and are committed to objectively covering it.

2. Since open source software can be acquired free of charge, is there a need for research and advisory services?

It is true that a great deal can be learned about open source without cost. However, we strive to provide added value by leveraging our experience to give objective information and positions about noteworthy issues/topics.

3. Does anyone care that much about open source?

The answer to this should be another question, phrased “Who can afford to not care about open source?” Open source is rapidly becoming something enterprises, organizations and IT decision makers must understand on multiple levels in order to maintain a competitive advantage.

4. Open source software is free, isn’t that its most important value?

Open source is almost always associated with free. And while this is valid on a superficial level, it does not fully describe nor reveal the entirety of open source. Entiva Group® endeavors to demonstrate the other avenues where it can produce value.

5. Do you adhere to any open source “principles” as a company?

We definitely have an in depth appreciation of open source principles. Through offerings such as our Open Analyst Program™, our direct support of the global open source community and the release of a great deal of our research and analysis under open source licenses. We hope to not only demonstrate our appreciation, but also our recognition of their place within business ecosystems.

6. I’ve never heard of Entiva Group before, how can I trust your position(s)?

Contact us about participating in our Open Analyst Program™ to get a better understanding of what we offer, without cost or obligation.
